The Central Accounting Department
Information Technology
The Information Technology Division supports the county's
network that includes PC's, servers, and an IBM i5. The role of the
division includes assuring appropriate infrastructure availability to support
user's needs.
Until recently, the county's network consisted of the Administration Building
and was integrated with the school system's network for email and internet
access. With the connection of remote county sites, the networks are now
being separated to improve security at the cost of increased complexity.
Recent projects of the division include
- Procurement and installation of an IBM i5 to
replace an aging AS/400 to speed processing of payrolls, accounts
payable and property tax billing and collection.
- Implementation of Exchange Server to separate county email from that of
the school system and enhance communication and information sharing within
the county.
- Design and implementation of a paperless electronic agenda
system for the Board of Supervisors to improve the agenda preparation
process and to make agendas available to the public on the county website.
Current projects of the division include
- Upgrades to the Cashier System in the Treasurer's
Office to improve delinquent tax collections and to enhance the revenue
posting process.
- Improvements to the network infrastructure to allow implementation of a
VoIP telephone system.
- Implementation of software to allow user inquiry
into the financial system.
