1997 Comprehensive Plan

The 1997 Accomack County Comprehensive Plan was adopted by the Board of Supervisors on August 4th, 1997. The overall purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to guide the future social, economic and physical development of Accomack County so as to ensure the provision of adequate, quality, community facilities and services and the maintenance of a healthy, safe, orderly, and harmonious environment. The 1997 Comprehensive Plan has been replaced by the 2008 Comprehensive Plan Update adopted on May, 14, 2008

The Comprehensive Plan contains information, policies, and programs for the county to implement in order to manage development and resources in a manner most beneficial to the citizenry.

This document is the result of significant effort on the part of the:

  • Accomack County Planning Commission
  • Accomack County Board of Supervisors
  • Accomack County Department of Building, Planning and Zoning Staff Members
  • The Citizens of Accomack County
The preparation of this document was supported by many agencies and organizations including:
  • The Virginia Coastal Resources Management Program
  • The Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Department
