2008 Comprehensive Plan Update

The Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission held a Joint Public Hearing on the Draft Comprehensive Plan Update on Wednesday, May 14, 2008.  After receiving and considering public comments, the Planning Commission recommended approval of the plan.  After considering the Planning Commission’s recommendation, the Board of Supervisors voted to adopt the Comprehensive Plan as recommended.

The overall purpose of the Comprehensive Plan is to guide the future social, economic and physical development of Accomack County so as to ensure the provision of adequate, quality, community facilities and services and the maintenance of a healthy, safe, orderly, and harmonious environment.  The Comprehensive Plan contains information, policies, and programs for the county to implement in order to manage development and resources in a manner most beneficial to the citizenry.

The updated Accomack County Comprehensive Plan, adopted May 14, 2008, is now available for downloading by individual chapters.  The maps, including the Future Land Use Map, are included in the body of the document:

  • Chapter Three
    Inventory of Existing Conditions - The Developed Environment
  • Chapter Four
    Issues and Concerns
    A discussion of issues and concerns facing Accomack County.
  • Chapter Five
    Goals, Objectives, Policies and Recommended Actions
    A presentation of the county’s goals for the future and outlines objectives, policies, and recommended actions designed to achieve those goals.
     
  • Chapter Six
    Future Land Use Plan
    • The future land use plan which includes the future land use map and proposed land use categories to be considered in the development of future revisions to the county’s zoning ordinance, zoning map, and subdivision ordinance.
       
  • Appendix
    The Appendix includes summary reports of work sessions and public input meetings conducted by the Planning Commission during development of the Draft Accomack County Comprehensive Plan update. These meetings include a Land Use Planning Issues Work Session in October 2005, two Comprehensive Plan Workshops in September 2006, and four Supervisor District Public Meetings held in January and February 2007.
