How to file for an Office

FROM THE OFFICE OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS

On November 5, 2019 the voters of Accomack County will be electing candidates to fill the following positions:

Commonwealth Attorney
Commissioner of Revenue
Sheriff
Treasurer
Board of Supervisor members in all nine districts
School Board members in all nine districts
Soil and Water Directors for the Eastern Shore, two seats
Virginia Senate for the General Assembly
Virginia House of Delegates for the General Assembly

Requirements to run for office:
YOU MUST BE EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD, A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATE, HAVE BEEN A RESIDENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA FOR THE YEAR IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE ELECTION, BE REGISTERED TO VOTE IN ACCOMACK COUNTY OR BE ELIGIBLE TO BE, HAVE NOT BEEN CONVICTED OF A FELONY OR ADJUDICATED MENTALLY INCOMPETENT , IF SO YOU MUST HAVE HAD YOUR RIGHTS RESOTRED.

To run for one of the offices above except for the Senate or Delegate seat, you must file the necessary paperwork with the General Registrar. You may obtain this paperwork from the Office of the Registrar at 23312 Courthouse Ave., in the Circuit Court Bldg. in Accomac or download everything from the Department of Election’s website at https://www.elections.virginia.gov. The Senate and Delegate seats are filed with the state.

You may file at any time; however the last day to file is June 11, 2019 by 7:00pm. For more information or questions you may have, call us at 757-787-2935 or 757-824-0525.
