Accomack County Alerted to Data Breach Involving Crisis24’s CodeRED Alert System

Accomack County has been informed of a cyber incident experienced by one of its software providers. Crisis24 operates and provides CodeRED, a platform the County has used to facilitate its emergency alert system. On November 11th, Crisis24 alerted Accomack County that user data from the CodeRED platform may have been compromised nationwide, including some names, email addresses, telephone numbers, and passwords.  The County encourages all individuals who enrolled in the CodeRED system to update any accounts that used the same or similar login credentials. Similarly, anyone who used their password for CodeRED as a password on other personal or professional accounts should immediately change those passwords.

Because of this incident, use of Accomack County’s CodeRED platform has ceased and we are in the process of configuring a new system for use during future emergency events. We do not believe that Crisis24’s incident will impact public safety in Accomack County, but we are committed to providing transparency on any information that Crisis24 shares with us.
