February 3, 2025 Board of Supervisors Meeting synopsis:
The Accomack County Board of Supervisors kicked off the Fiscal Year 2026 budget season with a meeting on February 3, 2025. Accomack County Administrator, Mr. Michael Mason, presented a power point to the Board for the proposed FY26 budget that included a budget "at-a-glance", guiding budget priorities, overall budget highlights, tax rates, a review of major funds, and other related items.
Some highlights from the proposed budget are:
- $0.05 increase in real estate tax rates dedicated to Emergency Medical Services. No increase in personal property tax rates.
- Sets aside $3,550,000 in additional funds for wastewater needs in Northern Accomack.
- Imposes a $0.10 per pack increase for Cigarette taxes bringing total tax to $0.30 per pack.
- An increase of $314,042 to the Accomack County Schools derived from the County's revenue sharing formula.
- Fund $9.5 million in capital spending, mostly from unassigned fund balance.
- No new debt is proposed.
- Scheduled contribution to the Rainy-Day Fund by allocating another $972,774.
- Provides for a 3% Cost of Living Increase effective 7/1/25 for full-time and part-time positions dependent upon final state budget.
- Adds two permanent full-time positions for an Animal Control Officer and a Senior Manager to oversee new EMS Drug box Program.
The Board of Supervisors will meet Wednesday, February 5, to continue the budget process and hear from County departments and agencies regarding their Fiscal Year 2026 requests.

4/14/25-Adoption of FY26 Budget, Tax Rates & CIP - 5:00 p.m. Board of Supervisors Chambers.
5/20/25 - Budget Communication shared with departments and agencies.
