 Board of Supervisors Meeting Synopsis

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors formally began the Fiscal Year 2027 budget process during its February 9, 2026 meeting. County Administrator Michael Mason presented an overview of the proposed FY27 budget, outlining key priorities and financial assumptions. The presentation included a budget-at-a-glance summary, budget priorities and highlights, proposed tax rates, a review of major funds, and other relevant financial information.

Key highlights of the proposed FY27 budget include:

  • An increase in the real estate tax rate of $0.013, with no increase in personal property tax rates.
  • An increase in the landfill tipping fee of $5 per ton, from $80 to $85 (a 6% increase).
  • A 10% increase in all building and zoning fees.
  • An additional $632,460 in funding for Accomack County Public Schools through the County’s revenue-sharing formula.
  • $3.3 million allocated for capital expenditures, primarily funded through the unassigned fund balance.
  • No new debt proposed.
  • A scheduled contribution of $1,070,051 to the County’s Rainy Day Fund.
  • A proposed 2% cost-of-living adjustment effective July 1, 2026, for full-time and part-time employees, contingent upon final approval of the state budget.
  • A proposed 2% bonus for all county employees and state-supported local employees, also dependent on the final state budget.

The Board of Supervisors will reconvene on Thursday, February 12, to continue the budget process and hear budget requests from County departments and agencies.
