Q. Can I enroll in insurance anytime?
A. No. On your first day of employment, you will meet with a representative from the Human Resources Department to begin the on-boarding process. During on-boarding, you will receive a booklet regarding your benefits and coverage options. as well as current insurance rates, medical/vision enrollment application, dental enrollment application and a wavier form. We normally allow new, full-time employees three (3) days to review the provided information and make a decision. Once an employee has made a decision, they must complete the forms and return them to the Human Resources Department for processing. If you elected to waive your insurance benefits during the on-boarding process, you must wait until open enrollment to obtain insurance coverage.
The exception is if you waived your benefits because you already have insurance coverage and that insurance coverage ends, then you can enroll based on a life changing event. If this happens, you will need to complete the application(s) for medical and/or dental enrollment. See your Human Resources Department should you have any questions.
Q. Can I make changes to my health and/or dental insurance?
A. Changes to your health and dental insurance plans can be made during open enrollment. Open enrollment occurs annually during the month of May. However, changes can be made outside of open enrollment should you have a "life changing event" such as:
- Loss of current coverage
- Birth of a child
- Adoption of a child
Should a life changing event occur, you will need to complete the employee change form. This must be completed and returned to the Human Resources Department within 30 days of the event. Otherwise, you may forfeit the ability to make a change until open enrollment.
Q. Can I enroll in only one type of coverage or do I have to enroll in all that is offered?
A. There are options when enrolling in insurance benefits that are offered. The medical and vision plans are together and cannot be separated. However, you can opt to have medical and vision without dental coverage. Employees can choose to sign-up for the dental insurance and not enroll in medical and vision, or you can waive all of your options.
