Proposed Rue District Polling Place Change - Public Comment Period

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors is soliciting public comment in accordance with Virginia Code §24.2-129, on changing the Rue District 502 polling place location from Metompkin Elementary School located at 24501 Parksley Road, Parksley, VA to Mary Nottingham Smith Culture Enrichment Center located at 24577 Mary N. Smith Road, Accomac, VA.

All public comments received between April 22, 2025 and May 21, 2025, will be shared with the Board of Supervisors at a public hearing on this matter, which is scheduled for May 21, 2025, at Metompkin Elementary School beginning at 6:00 p.m.

 UPDATE: Rue District (#502) Polling Place Relocated

The 30-day public comment period required by Virginia Code §24.2-129 for the proposed relocation of the (#502) RUE Precinct of Election District 5 ended on May 21, 2025. During this period, 6 public comments were received all in favor of changing the polling place. The Board also voted to schedule a public hearing on the proposed polling place change, which also
occurred on May 21, 2025 as a requirement of VA Code.

During the 30-day waiting period, no person subject to or affected by the covered practice challenged the proposed polling place change in the Accomack Circuit Court; nor did anyone sign up to speak at the public hearing.

The public hearing was closed on May 21, 2025 at 6:05 pm by Chairman Phillips of the Accomack County Board of Supervisors and a motion was made by Supervisor Washington and seconded by Supervisor Hart to approve the Ordinance Changing the Rue District #502 Polling Place from Metompkin Elementary School to Mary N Smith Cultural Enrichment Center. The motion was approved unanimously. Voters will receive new voter registration cards in the mail with the new polling place updated.
